Sports Science Testing

Unlocking your true potential

Fitness Assessments are an ideal method for highlighting strengths and and areas for improvement in performance. They allow both athlete and coach to analyze athletic performance, understand the sticking points and concentrate the focus of training and conditioning precisely to the areas requiring improvement. Through the use of performance benchmarking and goal setting this positively impacts on performance by providing the basis for future athletic development, inspiring confidence and giving the athlete motivation to train towards achieving their personal best.

At Strength in Sport, we provide sport-specific testing which complements the needs of the athlete and their chosen sport. A testing session can be designed for a single individual, small groups or a team/squad of athletes for almost any sport. A typical sport science testing session will include:

  • Anthropometric profiling –  height and weight analysis including Body Composition (skinfold analysis: body fat and lean muscle mass)
  • Functional Movement Skills – an assessment of physical movement skill competency, the building blocks for sport specific movement patterns
  • Maximal Strength – upper and lower body muscular strength assessments, comprising 1, 3 or 5RM
  • Power – A range of lower and upper body muscle power assessments for Explosive Strength and measures of Reactive Strength Index (RSI)
  • Speed and CoD – measures specific to individual sports, assessing Acceleration, Maximum Sprint Speed (MSS) and Change of Direction speed (CoD)
  • Aerobic / Anaerobic endurance – Field-based endurance assessments specific to individual sports, capturing a snap-shot of one’s Maximal Aerobic Speed (MAS), Repeated Sprint ability (RST) and associated Fatigue Index (FI), Functional Threshold Heart Rate (FT/HR) and measures of Aerobic Capacity/ Power

Strength in Sport are committed to using reliable and valid fitness test protocols. We are guided by industry leading sport scientists and strength and conditioning experts when selecting our choice of tests and use calibrated equipment so test results can be trusted and relied upon. This ensures an individual’s strengths and weaknesses are correctly identified on initial test and any subsequent re-test. We provide feedback in a user-friendly visual format with simple explanations of an athlete’s strengths and weaknesses, highlighting where the focus of training is needed. Through the use of performance bench-marking, we distinguish current results against desired levels, setting performance targets so athlete and coach can work together on physical development and future improvements.
